I am the mother of a son, the wife of a professor, and the minister of a liberal congregation.
I pray that I serve god and my people well.
My faith tells me there is no difference between “my people” and “all people.”
In prayer I speak my yearnings aloud, and hope to hear from the god who weaves us all together in compassion some clues about how to live my faith more fully, love my community more deeply, and understand the shape of justice.
Maybe you’d like to be in conversation with me.
My name is Parisa Parsa and I serve the congregation of First Parish in Milton, Massachusetts. I would be happy to have you visit my church. In this blog I speak only for myself.

Great blog and beautiful prayer (In your other post actually). I found your post while googling “Iranian Hummus”. I was making hummus for a dinner with some friends and began wondering if Iranians eat it too…I mean, we love fried Okra in Tennessee but it doesn’t mean they eat it in Seattle. Do you get my drift?
I have an Iranian (Scientist) landlord. He is very cool and I thought about sharing my hummus with him but wasn’t sure if it was a familiar item….now I know. I made over a quart and would love to share some with you but am afraid it would spoil in the mail.
Your prayer on the page about Katrina was beautiful. I want to learn it and use it at meals etc…Did you write it?
It made me feel hopeful. I had been thinking about the cycle of ignorance and cynicism that this poor country is caught in, all day. It is pitiful isn’t it. I abhor cynicism as a mode of communication…even the kids shows on Disney channel are cynical. I am a teacher and find it sad that students feel too pressured and embarrased to express genuine emotion over cynicism. I know they feel emotion but…it just isn’t cool.
I could go on and on, but complaining…..well, that’s part of the problem too isn’t it. It’s no solution to complain.
Be good,
Vollie

Vollie,
Thanks for your note. All the prayers on this blog are original unless I specifically say otherwise (there is one by Vivian Pomeroy, my predecessor in this church). I’d be honored to have you use them.
I am certain that Iranians in the U.S. eat hummus, but as far as I know it’s not an “Iranian” dish. I love it, actually. Hope your dinner was delicious!
